5 day husky tour

EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF DOGSLEDDING THROUGH SWEDISH LAPLAND

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF CHAMPIONS

Get ready for the ultimate winter adventure as we teach you how to care for and drive your own team of alaskan huskies. The way we work here is quite unique. Every dog in the kennel is either a current hero of the sport of dog mushing or a rising star. Running alongside them are a few senior champions. Between them all, they have won races as long as 1200 km!

Together we will explore the beautiful wilderness of Kirjesålandet. Kirjesålandet is part of the Vindelfjällens Nature Reserve, the largest area of untouched natural beauty of its kind in Europe.

Days driving your sled through perfect snowy landscapes, nights in a wilderness cabin, enjoying dinner by the fire and life under the stars, what could be better!

We believe in the personal touch. All our tours are limited to a maximum of 4 guests, which allows us to enjoy a cosy atmosphere, a flexible schedule and means our guides can give each guest any individual support they need.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON OUR TOURS

Here in Lapland we are a hardy bunch, and our tours take place in all weathers – so be ready! It could be windy, icy or snowy but that won’t stop us having an incredible experience together.

Our 5 and 6 days tours require a medium to high level of fitness. We cross varied terrain and you must be fit enough to help your team and push your sled sometimes.

Tour program - 5 days

Day 1 - Arrival day

Sorsele taxi will take you directly from Arvidsjaur airport to Sorsele, where we will come and pick you up. The entire transfer from the airport to the village of Slussfors will take on average 2.5 hours.

Your guide will be waiting to greet you at our beautiful guesthouse, where we will serve a delicious lunch of traditional Swedish food. After you have been geared up in warm overalls, boots and mittens we will take you to our kennel for an exciting introduction into the world of dog mushing.

The first stop on our kennel tour is to meet some of our many proven champions and future stars in the dog yard. The kennel has a very special atmosphere. These dogs are superheroes, they are truly special athletes, and we make sure we treat them like that every day.

On either the first or the last night you will be joined for dinner by 2-time Finnmarksløpet champion Petter Karlsson. This is a unique opportunity to learn what it’s like to reach the peak of performance in one of the world’s most uniquely challenging sports. Imagine how it feels to run with your team through 1200 km of the world’s harshest landscapes in only one week. Petter will be glad to share with you some special qualities of the dogs in your own team!

After dinner you’re welcome to relax in the sauna or chill out in our cosy living room, and get ready for the adventure ahead!

Day 2

Every morning our tour starts with a hearty breakfast together, and preparation for the day to come. With assistance from your guide you will harness your own team and make your dogs ready to start.

A quick check to be sure we have everything we need and then it’s time to hit the trail! Over 30km of perfect winter trails will be our playground on this first day.

In the afternoon we arrive at our first wilderness cabin, Flottar Koja which sits beside a beautiful stretch of fast running river. Between the forests and the mountains, with open water all year round, this is a hidden gem of peace and beauty.

Every afternoon when you arrive at a new cabin we will take care of and feed the dogs together as a group. After that we share a traditional evening meal – on the first day that means moose and potatoes fried over a pair of open fires on a traditional outdoor muurikka!

Day 3

img_6573                 dog sledding through the wilderness

This day we travel through inspiring mountain landscapes. Along the trail we will see the natural wonders created by the arctic weather, like pine forests covered by so much snow that they look more like giants or trolls than trees. It is easy to see what inspired the ancient stories of the vikings!

This part of Lapland is rarely seen by humans and you can easily get the feeling that you’ve been transported into a fairy tale world.

In the afternoon we arrive at our next cosy wilderness cabin. After the usual dog chores and a hearty dinner guests have the opportunity to unwind in our remote wilderness sauna!

Day 4

The more time you spend together with the dogs, the better you get to know them and you’ll start to discover their different personalities.

Nature will astound us anew with different views every day. On our last day on the sled we will travel through ancient spruce forest on the way back home to our husky camp in Slussfors.

After some time to wash up and relax it’s dinner time – your guide will serve a delicious meal while we all swap stories and talk about the adventures we shared.

Day 5 – Departure day

On the final day we will share our last breakfast and then the group will get together one last time to share our photographs, swap stories and enjoy the precious memories of your unique tour.

Your transfer to the airport will be the same as your journey to Slussfors.

Although this is goodbye we will share memories that last forever!
