Spending a day on a dog sled is not just an activity – it’s a full experience, from the early morning preparations at the cabin to the quiet moments out on the trail. For many of our guests, a husky safari is a long-awaited dream, and every day on the sled is a little bit different.
Last season, one of our guests captured her experience on film, and the result is an honest glimpse into what a day on the sled during a multi-day tour really looks like. We’re proud to share her video and the story behind it.
Life on the Trail - What Happens During a Husky Tour
In the morning, we first take care of the dogs and then have breakfast. Once we are well fortified, we stow everything back in the sled, harness the dogs, and off we go.
Every day out here in the wilderness can be different, with bright sunshine, snow flurries, or the glitter of frozen trees in the glow of our headlamps. We wind our way through dense forests, across the vastness of frozen lakes, and, of course, up into the mountains. There is often so much snow here that we have to help our dogs push. After about two hours on the sled, we take a lunch break by the open fire and watch our dogs take a nap. Then we continue until we reach the next cabin in the early evening. Here, the tasks are divided among the guests: one brings the things from the sled into the house, another lights the stove or helps the guide feed the dogs. Over a home-cooked dinner, we review the day and fall into bed, exhausted, dreaming already of the next day on the sled.
